A shocking news has come out from Malappuram district of Kerala. Here, a two-year-old girl died of suffocation due to the airbag opening after a car accident. Police gave information about the incident on Sunday. The incident occurred on Friday evening, when the girl was going from Kottakkal to Padparambu with her family members.

According to police, the car collided with a tanker. Due to the collision the airbag suddenly opened. During this time, the face of the girl sitting on the front seat in her mother’s lap got buried in the airbag. Due to this he died due to suffocation. Police said that four other passengers including the mother suffered minor injuries.

What is an airbag?

An airbag is a balloon-like cover made of strong fabric, which is installed in front of the driver and passengers inside the car. In the event of an accident, when the car stops suddenly or hits an object, the airbag rapidly fills with air and inflates. These inflated airbags prevent the driver and passengers from being pushed forward, helping to protect them from serious injuries.

How does an airbag work?

If the vehicle meets with an accident, the nitrogen gas already installed in the SRS system is filled in the airbag. This entire process takes place in a few seconds. After this the airbag inflates and provides safety to the passenger with better cushioning. Holes are made in the airbag, which expel the gas after deployment.
