New Delhi: The Election Commission announced the dates of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand on Tuesday evening. Along with this, the dates of by-elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in different states of the country were also announced. Shortly after the Election Commission’s press conference, the Congress Party released a list of three candidates. However, these three candidates are the candidates declared for the by-elections to be held on Lok Sabha/Assembly seats. Priyanka Gandhi’s name is also in this list.
Know which candidate will be from which seat
The three seats on which the Congress Party has announced the names of candidates include Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, Palakkad Assembly seat in Kerala and Chelakara Assembly seat. Let us tell you that by-elections are to be held only on these three seats of Kerala, in which there is one Lok Sabha seat and two assembly seats. Congress has declared Rahul Mamkoothil as its candidate from Palakkad Assembly seat and Ramya Haridas from Chelakara Assembly seat. Priyanka Gandhi has been made the candidate for Wayanad, the only vacant Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. It was announced long ago about Priyanka Gandhi that she will contest elections from Wayanad seat after Rahul Gandhi.
Why is Priyanka Gandhi contesting elections from Wayanad?
Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi was elected MP from this seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, apart from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi had also contested from Amethi Lok Sabha seat. When the election results came out, he won both the seats. After this, Rahul Gandhi announced to remain MP from Amethi seat only and he left Wayanad seat. This seat was vacant after Rahul Gandhi left Wayanad seat. However, the Election Commission today also announced the date of by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Shortly after the Election Commission announced the dates, Priyanka Gandhi’s name was declared on this seat.
