Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has expressed concern over the increasing tension between different communities in Dakshina Kannada district, saying that due to this the district is becoming a barren land.
Shivakumar said this at the Ashok Jan-Mana saree distribution program organized by MLA Ashok Rai K Rai Estates and Educational and Charitable Trust at Kumbettu in Puttur, 40 km from Mangaluru on Saturday and stressed that employment generation is necessary for restoring peace among the communities. It is very important.
He said, Dakshina Kannada district is becoming a wasteland, due to social tension and other issues educational institutions are no longer able to attract outside students. Many local banks have closed, due to which our youth have to look for employment in Saudi Arabia, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Shivkumar urged local leaders to give priority to employment generation. The region is home to several temples and is known for its beautiful coastline, making it an ideal place for a differentiated tourism policy, he said. Not only this, despite being the largest port in Mangaluru, there are no five-star hotels with good facilities.
