Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and his US counterpart Lloyd J Austin met in Vientiane, Laos and lauded the impressive progress in the India-US defense partnership with emphasis on operational coordination, information-sharing and increased industrial cooperation and innovation. The Defense Ministry said in a statement issued in New Delhi that both sides recognized the significant progress made under the US-India Defense Industrial Cooperation Roadmap, including priority co-production arrangements for jet engines, munitions and ground mobility systems. Singh and Austin held talks on the sidelines of the 11th ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting (ADMM)-Plus. The roadmap, adopted last year, seeks to accelerate technology cooperation and co-production in critical areas including air combat and land mobility systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, munitions and the underwater sector. The two leaders last met in the US in August and held wide-ranging talks to deepen bilateral ties. Defense cooperation, industrial cooperation, regional security, Indo-Pacific region and other issues were highlighted in the talks.

India and the US then signed a Security of Supply Arrangement (SOSA) to strengthen defense cooperation and to ensure mutual supply of defense goods and services to resolve unanticipated supply chain disruptions through cooperation, understanding, interoperability and cooperation on matters of mutual interest. Two major agreements related to the appointment of liaison officers were signed to enhance information sharing.
