Nayab Singh Saini is likely to take oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana on October 15 in Panchkula. However, the state government has released an official letter mentioning the date and venue of the event. At the same time, a close aide of Saini said that he is still waiting for confirmation of the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On its part, the Haryana government has constituted a 10-member committee of officials headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula to oversee the arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony.

In an official order issued on Thursday, Chief Secretary TV S N Prasad said that the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Panchkula will also be members of the committee. Since the BJP had contested the assembly elections by projecting outgoing Chief Minister Saini as the CM face, there is every possibility that he will also lead the new government. A close aide of Saini said that along with the Chief Minister, some ministers will also take oath. He also said that apart from Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of BJP ruled states will also participate in this program.
BJP won 48 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. India’s richest woman Savitri Jindal and three independent MLAs have also announced their support to BJP. The main opposition Congress won 37 seats and the Indian National Lok Dal won two seats. The party has given its best performance so far by securing 48 seats, which is 11 more than the Congress’ seat count. JJP and AAP were wiped out in this election.

Sources said both Dhanda, who hails from the Jat community, and Sharma (a senior leader and a Brahmin face) are among the possible contenders for ministerial berths in the new government. Haryana can have a maximum of 14 ministers including the Chief Minister. This time BJP maintained its dominance in Ahirwal region. Of the 17 Scheduled Caste (SC) seats in Haryana, the BJP won eight. Leaders of Dalit community who can join the race for ministerial post include senior leaders Krishna Lal Panwar and Krishna Kumar, who won from Israna seat.
