Kerala Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials raided gold jewelery manufacturing units in Thrissur, famous for gold trade, and seized 120 kg of unaccounted gold.
The campaign has been named ‘Torre del Oro’ and is considered to be the largest campaign of its kind in the state. The operation, which began on Wednesday evening, continued on Thursday during which more than 700 officers conducted raids at around 78 locations, including manufacturing units and jewelers’ houses, across the Central Kerala district.
According to official sources, the authorities found significant irregularities in billing and taxation processes besides seizing the gold. This massive raid was conducted under the leadership of GST Special Commissioner Abraham Ren S.
To ensure secrecy of the raid, sources said, officials from across the state were called to Thrissur on the pretext of a training program and taken to various places in buses with banners reading “Study Tour”. State GST Intelligence Commissioner Dinesh Kumar said that the campaign ‘Torre del Oro’ will continue.
