Nearly half a dozen landmines exploded following a forest fire near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday. The officers provided this information.
It is said that these tunnels were part of an anti-infiltration barrier system. Officials said the forest fire started from across the border in the afternoon and spread to areas in Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar sub-division.
He said about six explosions were heard at regular intervals in the last few hours due to landmines being activated after the fire, but there was no news of any casualty.
Officials said that efforts are underway to control the fire, the cause of the fire is not yet clear. He said that the possibility of an attempt to damage the anti-infiltration barrier system from across the border cannot be ruled out. Officials said the army is on alert to foil any infiltration attempt by terrorists.
