Lok Sabha now digital, MPs will have to give attendance through digital pen
The winter session of Parliament has started from Monday 25th November. The first day has been quite different for the Lok Sabha members participating in this winter session of Parliament. On the very first day of the winter session, MPs have been given the facility to mark their attendance using a digital pen on the electronic tab.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat said that as part of Speaker Om Birla’s initiative to make Parliament paperless, electronic tabs will be placed at four counters in the lobby of the Lok Sabha chamber. “Physical attendance registers will continue to be maintained at the counters. However, members are advised to use the tabs as a priority and help in making Parliament paperless,” the secretariat said.
MPs will first have to select their name from the drop-down menu on the tab, add their signature with the help of a digital pen and press the ‘Submit’ button to register their presence. A team of engineers from the National Informatics Center will be deployed at each counter for technical support. Members will have to mark their presence in the register to avail their daily allowance during the Parliament session. Earlier, Lok Sabha members used to mark their attendance using mobile apps.
The opposition is trying to corner the government on several issues, including the indictment of Gautam Adani in the US, Manipur violence, price rise, air pollution and train derailments. The opposition on Sunday demanded the Center to allow discussion in Parliament on US prosecutors’ bribery allegations against Adani Group during an all-party meeting called by the government, even as Union Minister Kiren Rijiju made it clear that the issues need to be raised in both Houses. Authorized committees will take decisions on matters with the consent of the Chairman.
The government has listed 16 bills for consideration during the session, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Coastal Navigation Bill, the Indian Ports Bill and the Merchant Shipping Bill, all aimed at enhancing India’s maritime treaty obligations, news agency PTI reported. has to be completed. Other important items include: Punjab Courts (Amendment) Bill: To increase the monetary jurisdiction of Delhi District Courts from ₹3 lakh to ₹20 lakh and First batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants (2024-25): Presentation, discussion and Voting.
