Alliance leaders have said that a new government can be formed in Maharashtra by December 2. A power-sharing arrangement is being worked out in the state, which has led to a decisive landslide victory for the Mahayuti alliance in the assembly elections.

Amid growing suspense over the Maharashtra Chief Minister, a key meeting of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance to take forward a power-sharing agreement in the state was canceled on Friday. Outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has left for his hometown Satara. Now the main meeting is expected to be held on Sunday. The Mumbai meeting was scheduled after a high-level discussion in Delhi on Thursday night, where Shinde along with his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Alliance leaders have said that a new government can be formed in Maharashtra by December 2. A power-sharing arrangement is being worked out in the state, which has led to a decisive landslide victory for the Mahayuti alliance in the assembly elections. Former chief minister Fadnavis, under whose leadership the BJP crossed the 100-seat mark for the third consecutive time in the 288-member state assembly, is considered the frontrunner for the top executive post in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra’s acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief J. He had a good and positive conversation with P. Nadda. Before leaving for Mumbai, Shinde told reporters here that the decision on Maharashtra’s next chief minister would be taken “in a day or two” at another meeting of the Mahayuti alliance in the state capital. Shinde, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar had met Shah and Nadda here on Thursday night to discuss the power-sharing agreement in the state.
