According to the police, the 74-year-old victim, a resident of Ulhasnagar, recently received a ‘video call’ on WhatsApp from a person who, pretending to be a policeman, got him to talk to another person.
In Maharashtra’s Thane district, a fraudster, who posed as a policeman and threatened a retired bank employee over video call, allegedly cheated him of Rs 3.57 crore. An official gave this information on Thursday.
According to the police, the 74-year-old victim, a resident of Ulhasnagar, recently received a ‘video call’ on WhatsApp from a person who, posing as a policeman, got him to talk to another person.
The Central Police Station official said that the fraudster threatened the victim and made him transfer Rs 3.57 crore to various bank accounts. The official said that based on the complaint of the victim, the police on Tuesday registered an FIR against the unknown fraudster under section 318 (4) (fraud) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
