Even though suspense continues over the name of the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. At the same time, speculations have intensified that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Azad Maidan on December 5. Devendra Fadnavis is still ahead in the race for CM. Eknath Shinde canceled two major meetings on Friday and if sources are to be believed, he has left for his village Satara. Shinde, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, met Shah and Nadda late on Thursday night to hammer out a power-sharing agreement for the next government in Maharashtra after the BJP-led alliance won a thumping majority in the assembly elections.

According to reports, BJP may have 17 cabinet ministers including old and new faces. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena may have nine cabinet ministers and Ajit Pawar’s NCP may have seven cabinet ministers. Eknath Shinde on Friday said he had a “good and positive” discussion with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda on the issue of government formation in the state on Thursday night. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi before leaving for Mumbai, Shinde said the decision on Maharashtra’s next chief minister would be taken “in a day or two” at another meeting of the Mahayuti alliance in the state capital.
The BJP is significantly negotiating key portfolios, including Home, indicating its intention to consolidate control after its electoral dominance. It is not yet officially clear who will get what in the Maharashtra cabinet. A decisive meeting between Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi was aimed at resolving the pending issues. The meeting, which is considered important, concluded with expectations of an imminent announcement pending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval.
Shinde’s role in the new arrangement remains uncertain. Multiple reports suggest that he may be appointed Deputy Chief Minister or offered a central role. However, other reports quoting Shiv Sena sources indicate that he may continue in the state cabinet. The BJP’s push for Fadnavis for the chief ministerial post comes after his strong performance in the recent assembly elections, where it won 132 out of 288 seats. However, this decision is not without challenges.

Speaking to reporters, Shirsat said that Shinde will definitely not go to the Center as a Union Minister. Following the stellar performance of the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra elections, Caretaker Chief Minister Shinde said he will “fully support” the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership’s decision to announce the name of the next Chief Minister and will not obstruct the process.
