One person died after allegedly consuming poisonous liquor in Bihar’s Saran district, while two other sick people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
According to a statement issued by the Saran district administration on Wednesday, the incident took place in Ibrahimpur area under Mashrakh police station of the district. The statement said, after receiving information about the death due to suspicious consumption of poisonous liquor, the police reached the spot on Wednesday morning and investigated the matter.
Two others have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. The matter is being investigated further. In April 2016, the Nitish Kumar government had banned the sale and consumption of liquor in Bihar.
Despite the campaign being launched against liquor smugglers, incidents of liquor smuggling keep coming to light from the state. The Bihar government recently admitted that more than 150 people have died due to consuming illicit liquor in the state since prohibition was implemented in April 2016.
