People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday sought clarification from the Jammu and Kashmir government after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks that her party never talked about the restoration of Article 370. Mehbooba was reacting to Kharge’s remarks on the withdrawal of Article 370 during a press conference in Pune on Thursday. Mufti said that the public has given a huge mandate to this government. He has expressed deep faith in this. Article 370 is an emotional issue for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and people’s emotions are attached to it.

The PDP chief said the resolution passed by the ruling National Conference (NC) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly asking the Center to formulate a mechanism to restore the special status of the erstwhile state was vague and ambiguous on the restoration of Article 370. Was not clear. He said that NC and Congress government should give clarification. PDP had also said that the proposal was not clear (on Article 370) and was mentioned vaguely. There are 50 members in this government, they should have said this with their heads held high.
Mehbooba Mufti said that then Congress’s statement that the proposal was for statehood, and not for (Article) 370, has created a lot of questions and apprehensions in the minds of people. Therefore the government should clarify this. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the resolution should have condemned what was done on August 5, 2019 – when the Center abrogated Article 370.

During the Pune press conference, Kharge said that Amit Shah accuses Congress of spreading lies in his election rallies. But he (himself) is saying that Congress wants to bring back Article 370 (in Jammu and Kashmir). Tell me, who said this and when? He said that you are raising an issue. If it (the proposal to abrogate Article 370) was already passed in Parliament, then why are you raising the issue again? This means that you want to keep the issue of partition alive. If you have to say this then go to Kashmir and say it. Elections are over in Kashmir.
