Andhra Pradesh is pushing to strengthen sports in the state with new incentives for medal winners and Olympians. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has pledged to establish the state’s sports policy as the best in the country. During a review meeting at the State Secretariat, he stressed the importance of motivating the athletes and providing adequate incentives to ensure that they get the recognition they deserve. To increase support for Olympic medal winners, the state government is planning to significantly increase the cash awards. Gold medal winners will now get Rs 7 crore, up from Rs 75 lakh, while silver medal winners will get Rs 5 crore instead of Rs 50 lakh, and bronze medal winners will get Rs 3 crore, up from Rs 30 lakh. Additionally, each participant participating in the Olympics will receive a cash incentive of Rs 50 lakh.

Apart from this, it was decided in the meeting to increase the sports employment quota from 2 percent to 3 percent. The newly designed sports policy focuses on four key objectives: sports for all, nurturing talent, sports ecosystem and global visibility. He said that necessary amendments in the sports policy will be presented in the Cabinet for approval.
