Kendrapada: A government employee in Odisha claimed that she was denied leave during labour, following which her baby died in the womb. The matter pertains to the office located in Kendrapara district. The female employee claimed that the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) refused to grant leave during labor pain, due to which her child died in the womb. According to the information received, the incident took place on October 25, while the matter came to light on Tuesday.

Ignored when I asked for leave

The victim woman Varsha Priyadarshini (26) told that she works as an employee of the Women and Child Development Department in Derabish block of Kendrapara district. According to the woman, she was in the 7th month of pregnancy. While working, he suddenly felt severe pain. The woman alleged that she asked CDPO Snehlata Sahu and other officials to take her to the hospital, but her request was ignored. The woman, Varsha Priyadarshini, also claimed that Snehlatha misbehaved with her. Later, a relative of the woman took her to a private hospital in Kendrapara, where ultrasound revealed that the child had died in the womb.

Written complaint to the District Magistrate

The woman claimed that her child died due to mental torture and negligence of the CDPO. After this, Varsha Priyadarshini lodged a written complaint with the District Magistrate. In a written complaint, the woman demanded strict action against CDPO Snehlata Sahu. Kendrapara’s Additional District Magistrate Neelu Mahapatra said, “After receiving the complaint, the district administration directed the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) to investigate the matter and submit a report. We will take action after receiving the report.”

Deputy CM expressed concern

After getting information about the entire matter, State Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida expressed concern over the incident. In a post on social media platform X, he said that he discussed the incident with the Kendrapara District Magistrate and directed him to immediately conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report. Responding to the allegations made by the woman, the CDPO said that he was not aware of Varsha’s suffering. At present, Manorama Swain, DSWO of Kendrapara, said, “A committee will be formed to investigate the matter. After that we will submit our report.” (input- agency)
