MLA Sanjeev Jha is an Indian politician associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. He is a member of Delhi Legislative Assembly from Burari constituency. Along with this, Sanjeev is also in-charge of Chhattisgarh and spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party. In 2018, he served as the Chairman of the District Development Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Standing Committee on Education by the Delhi Assembly as well as General Secretary of the ruling party in the Assembly till January 2020. He was later appointed member of the State Transport Authority and named member of the North MCD. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, he again defeated JDU candidate Shailendra Kumar.
Early life and education
Sanjeev Jha was born on 1 August 1979 in Sunderpur Bhitthi, a village in Madhubani district of Bihar. He was the fourth of six children of Sushil Jha and Gayatri Devi. Jha’s family was from Bihar. His father was an employee of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Sanjeev received his schooling at MYN High School, Shambhuar, Madhubani. After this, he joined RK College in Madhubani district to study BA (Hons.) in 2001.
activism
In early 2007, he participated in various environmental movements along with many social activists and also started teaching poor children in the slum areas of East Delhi. In 2010 he joined the anti-corruption movement started by Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal and formed the IAC Youth Forum. IAC demanded implementation of the Jan Lokpal Bill, which would result in a stronger Lokpal. He was at the forefront when protests broke out in the city after the Nirbhaya gang rape.
political journey
Sanjeev Jha played an important role in the formation of Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Committee in early 2012. Following the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party in late 2012, Sanjeev Jha was elected Member of the Legislative Assembly in the December 2013 Delhi Assembly election, when he defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shri Krishna Tyagi by 10,351 votes in the Burari constituency of North East Delhi. . He also served as Chairman of the District Development Committee (Central District).
In the February 2015 Delhi Assembly election which resulted in a landslide victory for AAP, he was again elected from Burari. He defeated Gopal Jha of Bharatiya Janata Party by more than 67,950 votes. Later he was appointed spokesperson and in-charge of Bihar and Jharkhand state by Aam Aadmi Party. In 2016, the Delhi Government appointed him Parliamentary Secretary for Transport.
In 2018, he was appointed by the Delhi Assembly as the Chairman of the District Development Committee (Central District), Public Accounts Committee, Standing Committee on Education as well as General Secretary of the ruling party in the Assembly till January 2020. He was later appointed member of the State Transport Authority and named member of the North MCD. In the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election, he again defeated JDU candidate Shailendra Kumar by 88,158 votes. He was appointed in-charge of Chhattisgarh state (2022).
