It has been seen for a long time that communal violence is increasing in the country. At every festival the atmosphere is spoiled by some miscreants. The same thing is being repeated again and again in the country’s capital. People have committed violence and disturbed the peace inside the Central University. Diwali celebrations at Jamia Millia Islamia’s Delhi campus turned into chaos on Tuesday night when a clash broke out between two groups of students and police entered the university. The incident occurred around Gate No. 7 of the Delhi University campus during a Rangoli program organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

There was a huge dispute at Gate No. 7 of Jamia Millia Islamia and finally the police came and controlled the atmosphere. After the arrival of the police, the miscreants created ruckus again. The incident began when members of the other group allegedly damaged some Diwali decorations including rangoli and diyas, leading to a confrontation. People destroyed the decorations made for Diwali in Jamia Millia Islamia. The lamps that were lit were broken. Rangoli was also spoiled. Abuses were said about the festival. There was also a scuffle between people. Videos taken during the melee and shared on social media show heated altercation and sloganeering between the individuals. Some viral posts claimed that slogans of “Allahu Akbar” and “Palestine Zindabad” were heard during the incident.

“The incident occurred near Gate 7 around 7:30-8 pm,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East, Ravi Kumar told The Indian Express. “A group of students belonging to ABVP were making rangoli and putting up lamps to celebrate Diwali. The other group did not like it and started breaking the decorations. After this, scuffles and sloganeering started from both the sides. ” Although the reason for the scuffle is not known, police have been deployed outside the campus to keep an eye on what is happening and prevent any kind of tension from escalating.
