Jakhar wrote that Prime Minister Modi has recently made many efforts to heal the wounds suffered by the state. The move to allot land to Haryana will harm the PM’s efforts to uplift the religious and social sentiments of Punjab.

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar on Thursday opposed the Centre’s move to allot 10 acres of land to Haryana to build its assembly complex in the Union Territory of Chandigarh and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to cancel it. In a post on Twitter, Jakhar said the Centre’s move to allot land will hurt Punjabis emotionally as Chandigarh, being the capital of Punjab, is not just a piece of land. This is a matter of deep emotion for the people of the state.

Jakhar wrote that Prime Minister Modi has recently made many efforts to heal the wounds suffered by the state. The move to allot land to Haryana will harm the PM’s efforts to uplift the religious and social sentiments of Punjab. He said that I believe that the Center should reconsider its decision to allot land for a separate assembly (to Haryana) to maintain its strong ties with Punjab. I appeal to the Prime Minister to personally intervene and cancel this decision.

He said that this is an issue on which all the parties of Punjab are unanimous but due to the misunderstanding of Aam Aadmi Party Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab’s claim has become weak. Jakhar said that when Haryana asked for this land for its assembly in front of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the North Zonal Council meeting in Jaipur, instead of opposing it, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann spoke to the Punjab Assembly. He also put his seal of approval on Haryana’s demand by asking for land.
