Rahul Gandhi further wrote that caste census is the first of many important steps that will help in planning for overall development in the next few decades. This is why I have been repeatedly demanding a comprehensive caste census in the country. The Congress government of Telangana has shown the way, we will also conduct a comprehensive caste census at the national level. Gandhi had said on November 5 that he was fully committed to ensuring caste census in Telangana and making the state a model for caste census in the country.
The survey started from 6 November. He had said that the caste census is the first process to be undertaken to assess the extent and nature of discrimination. Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had said that he wondered why the PM had not publicly said that he wanted to challenge the idea of discrimination in India. He asked, “Why is the Prime Minister afraid to ask how many Dalits, OBCs, tribals are there in corporates, judiciary, media?” Congress has also promised to conduct caste survey in Maharashtra and Jharkhand if it comes to power after the assembly elections.
