New Delhi: There is tension in relations between India and Canada. Diplomatic relations between the two may deteriorate. In fact, the Indian government has decided to recall the High Commissioner and other targeted diplomats and officials from Canada. The statement issued by the Foreign Ministry clearly underlined that in an environment of extremism and violence, the actions of the Trudeau government put their security at risk. The Ministry of External Affairs said the Canadian Charge d’Affaires was called by Secretary (East) this evening. He was told that the baseless targeting of the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats and officials in Canada is completely unacceptable. In such a situation, the Canadian ambassador in charge was told that India has the right to take further steps in response to the Trudeau government’s support to extremism against India.
The Ministry of External Affairs said India received a diplomatic message from Canada yesterday, stating that the Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats are monitoring the ongoing investigation in connection with a case in that country. In such a situation, India now reserves the right to take further steps in response to these efforts of the Canadian government to fabricate allegations against Indian diplomats.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, PM Trudeau made certain allegations in September 2023 and the Government of Canada has not shared even a shred of evidence with the Government of India since then, despite multiple requests from our side. In fact, in September last year, Prime Minister Trudeau had made allegations of ‘possible’ involvement of Indian agents in the murder of Khalistani extremist Nijjar.
