Four Indian citizens trapped in the war in Syria have returned. The Indian Embassy took them out of Syria and took them to Delhi Airport. After returning to the country, these citizens have described the situation in Syria. An Indian citizen who reached IGI airport said, “I had gone there 15-20 days ago. The Indian Embassy evacuated us. First we went to Lebanon and then to Goa and today we have reached Delhi. We are happy that we have reached our country. The Indian Embassy helped us a lot.”
India has evacuated all its citizens from Syria who wanted to return home after the overthrow of President Bashar Assad’s government. Rebels also took control of the capital, Damascus, after several major cities and towns following the fall of the Assad government. India had evacuated its citizens from Syria on Tuesday. “We have evacuated all Indian nationals present in Syria who wanted to return home following the recent developments in that country. So far, 77 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Syria,” Jaiswal said.
How is the situation in Syria?
“We contacted our embassy and they called us to Damascus, we stayed there for 2-3 days, then we were taken to Beirut. The situation there is very serious. Every day we get rocket fire,” an Indian citizen who returned from Syria said at the Delhi airport. And the sounds of bullets were heard. The embassy helped us a lot and provided all facilities.”
End of 50 years of rule of Assad family in Syria
Rebels also took control of the capital, Damascus, after capturing several other major cities and towns in Syria. Assad fled the country after rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control of Damascus, ending his family’s 50-year rule. Russian state media reported that Assad was in Moscow and would be granted asylum. His nearly 14-year tenure was marked by civil war, bloodshed, and brutal repression of his political opponents.
