Let us tell you that Mushal Hussain Malik, wife of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik, has written a letter to Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, urging him to raise the issue of her jailed husband in Parliament. Mushal claimed that her husband can play an important role in maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, Mushal, a former assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the issue of human rights and women empowerment, has drawn his attention to the ongoing trial against Malik in a three-decade-old treason case in which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested him. “Death penalty has been requested.” Let us tell you that Kashmiri separatist leader Malik himself is arguing the petition filed against him by the NIA in the Delhi High Court in this case related to terrorist financing. NIA has filed an appeal in this case and requested the court to give death sentence to Malik. The NIA had filed a charge sheet against several persons including Malik in this 2017 case. In 2022, a lower court had sentenced Malik to life imprisonment.

Mushal said, “Malik is on an indefinite hunger strike since November 2 to protest against the inhuman treatment in jail. This hunger strike will further adversely affect Malik’s health. “It will put in danger the life of a person who has chosen to give up arms and follow the path of non-violence.” Mushal alleged that the BJP government has been harassing Malik “in all unimaginable ways” since 2019. She said, “Malik is being tried in a 35-year-old case for waging war against India and now the NIA is demanding death penalty for him in the fabricated cases registered against him.” Bushra said, “I urge you (Rahul) to use your high moral and political influence in Parliament and initiate a discussion on the Yasin Malik case, which will not be a ‘sham’ but will bring real peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Can become a means to do so.”
