Lanka T10 Super League

Match fixing in cricket is not ending. Once again the genie of fixing has come out in cricket. The latest case is related to the famous T10 league in which the Indian owner of the franchise has been arrested. This issue has come to light in India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka. A team of Sri Lanka’s T10 league ‘Lanka T10 Super League’ has been accused of match fixing. In this case, the police has arrested Prem Thakur, the Indian owner of ‘Lanka T10 Super League’ team Galle Marvels, on charges of match fixing.

Indian citizen arrested

According to ‘ESPNcricinfo’, Thakur was arrested and presented in the local court on Thursday, a day after the start of the tournament. The report said that Thakur, an Indian national, has been arrested by the Sri Lankan ‘Sports Police Unit’ under the 2019 Prevention of Sports-related Offenses Act. He was arrested from a hotel in Kandy. Lanka T10 tournament is being organized in this city.

According to the report, it is understood that a foreign player tipped off Thakur about the attempted fixing. Like the LPL earlier this year, a representative of the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit is also in the country to oversee the tournament at the request of Sri Lanka Cricket. Accordingly, Lanka T10 Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwella has confirmed that the tournament will ‘proceed as per schedule’.

Team owner arrested for the second time in the league

This is the second franchise tournament in Sri Lanka this year in which a team owner has been arrested under the country’s sports anti-corruption ordinance. Tamim Rahman, co-owner of LPL franchise Dambulla Thunders, was arrested in May on match-fixing charges. Recently, 3 South African players were also arrested in the 8 year old match fixing scandal. These three players are accused of being involved in match fixing in the T20 Ram Slam Challenge tournament in 2015–16.
