International Cricket Council i.e. ICC, the supreme body of cricket, released the latest rankings on 11 December. In the latest rankings of Test batsmen, England’s Harry Brook became the number-1 batsman, ending the reign of his senior partner Joe Root. However, 25-year-old Brook, who scored his eighth career century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, is only one point ahead of his senior teammate. Brook has a total of 898 rating points. If we look at the latest ICC Test rankings, this time there has been a huge upheaval in the top-10.
Travis Head, who played an inning of 140 runs in the Adelaide Test against India, made a huge jump of 6 places and made it to the top-10. Head has now reached number five in the rankings for Test batsmen. While Travis Head made a big gain in the rankings, his compatriot Steve Smith suffered a big loss. Steve Smith has fallen 3 places and is now out of the list of top-10 Test batsmen. Steve had to suffer this loss due to his poor form.
Smith suffered huge loss
So far, 2 matches have been played between India and Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India won the first test match and Australia won the second test. However, Smith’s bat remained calm in both the matches. This is the reason why Smith has been removed from the top-10. You will be surprised to know that this is the first time in the last 7 years that Smith’s name is not included in the ranking of top-10 Test batsmen. This means that for the first time since 2015, Smith has been out of the top-10 list. Currently, Smith is at 11th position with 708 rating points.
Smith has a chance for a comeback
There are still 3 test matches to be played between India and Australia. In such a situation, Smith will have a great opportunity to get himself included in the top-10 again. However, for this he will have to get rid of his bad form as soon as possible. India and Australia are currently tied at 1-1 in the 5-match Test series. Now the third test match will be played at Gabba, Brisbane from 14 December.
