Batting first, Sri Lanka scored more than 400 after losing 5 wickets on the second day.

In the second Test, Kamendu Mendis scored a brilliant half-century on the first day and after his Test debut, he made a world record by scoring eight half-centuries in eight consecutive matches. In the 147-year history of Test cricket, no one had ever achieved the feat of scoring eight 50+ scores in eight consecutive matches after debut. He left Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel behind with seven 50+ scores.

First world record made, now equal to Bradman’s

By the end of the first day’s play, Sri Lanka had scored 306/3 runs after losing 3 wickets. Angelo Mathews returned unbeaten after scoring 78 runs and Kamendu Mendis after scoring 51 runs. Shortly after the start of the second day’s play, Ajello Mathews and then Dhananjay de Silva returned to the pavilion but Mendis remained at one end. In this way, he created a new history by converting his half-century scored on the first day into a century.

Kamendu Mendis completed his century with fours in 147 balls. He scored a century with the help of 12 fours and 1 six. This is the 5th century of his Test career which has come in only his 13th Test innings. In this way, Mendis has equaled Don Bradman’s record by scoring 5 Test centuries in the fewest innings. The record of scoring 5 Test centuries in the fewest innings is held by Everton Weeks of West Indies. Weeks scored 5 centuries in 10 innings.
