Dubai: Tension between the two countries has reached its peak after the Israeli attack on Iran on October 26. Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel as well as America. Amidst this tension, Tehran has detained an Iranian-American journalist. American authorities gave this information on Sunday. The US State Department informed ‘The Associated Press’ about the detention of journalist Reza Valizadeh. This information was received at a time when 45 years have been completed since Iran captured the American Embassy and took people hostage.
Let us tell you that Valizadeh used to work for ‘Radio Farda’. ‘Radio Farda’ is an institute under ‘Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’ funded by the US government. Valizadeh wrote on the social media platform X in February that his family members were detained in an attempt to bring him back to Iran. Valizadeh then shared two messages in August indicating that he had returned to Iran, despite Iran’s theocracy viewing Radio Farda as an enemy institution. There has been speculation for the past few weeks that Valizadeh has been detained.
America claimed to have arrested a journalist in Iran
The Human Rights Activist News Agency, which monitors cases in Iran, said he was detained upon arrival in the country earlier this year but later released. He was then arrested again and sent to Evin prison, where he now faces trial in Iran’s Revolutionary Court, which regularly holds in-camera hearings, the agency said. He said Valizadeh was also arrested in 2007. Asked about Valizadeh, the US State Department told The Associated Press that it was “aware of reports that an American-Iranian citizen has been arrested in Iran.”
Iran makes such arrests because of politics
“Iran frequently unjustly imprisons American citizens and citizens of other countries for political purposes,” the State Department said. This practice is cruel and contrary to international law.” Iran has not acknowledged detaining Valizadeh. Apart from this, amid the arrival of long range ‘B-52’ bombers in West Asia in an attempt to stop Tehran, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Israel and America to give a ‘befitting reply’ to the attacks on Iran and its allies. Threatened on Saturday. (Language)
