Before the accident the aircraft circled over Aktau Airport and requested an emergency landing. However, the plane crashed during emergency landing near Aktau Airport. The passenger plane caught fire as soon as it hit the ground. It was seen from a distance that the plane went out of control after landing on the ground and turned into a ball of fire. Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said emergency teams saw flames on the plane when they arrived at the crash site.

Plane destined for Russian city reached Kazakhstan
According to media reports, the passenger plane was going from Azerbaijan to Southern Russia. The plane took off from Baku and was headed to Grozny, Chechnya, Russia, but was diverted due to fog in Grozny. According to Russian news agency TASS, Chechnya’s airport confirmed that the plane that took off from Baku, which crashed in Kazakhstan, was diverted first to Makhachkala and then to Aktau due to fog in Grozny.
“The Embraer 190 aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, flight number J2-8243, was on the Baku-Grozny route,” Azerbaijan Airlines wrote in a post on Twitter. It made an emergency landing at a distance of about 3 kilometers near the city of Aktau. The post further said, ‘More information about the incident will be given soon.’
