Five soldiers were killed and another seriously injured on Monday when a military helicopter crashed during a training flight in Turkey’s southwestern Isparta province. Provincial Governor Abdullah Erin said Brigadier General Isa Bedili, commander of the Isparta Army Aviation School, was also among the casualties, Xinhua news agency quoted local broadcaster NTV as saying.
Emergency response teams, including ambulances and firefighters, were immediately dispatched to the scene near a gas station in Kesiborlu district. On June 1, 2017, at least 13 military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash in Türkiye’s Sirnak province. According to the Turkish Armed Forces statement, an AS 532 Cougar-type helicopter carrying 13 personnel took off from a military command in Senoba, Sirnak. Shortly thereafter, the helicopter collided with a high-voltage line and crashed.
It is not yet clear what caused the two helicopters to collide with each other. Irene said that investigation into the matter has been started. Private news agency ‘DHA’ reported that the UH-1 utility helicopter crashed into a field and broke into two parts. The second helicopter landed safely about 400 meters away.
