Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully completed testing of the Guided Pinaka Weapon System. This testing was part of the Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) validation trial. Flight testing was conducted in three phases at various field firing ranges. During these tests, rockets were tested on a large scale. During this period, PSQR standards such as range, accuracy, stability and salvo mode (salvo is the simultaneous use of artillery or firearms involving firing of cannons to engage the target) were assessed as fire rate at multiple targets. Twelve (12) rockets from each production agency were tested from two in-service Pinaka launchers upgraded by the launcher production agencies.

The precision strike variant for the Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System is a completely indigenous weapon system developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with the Research Center Building, Defense Research and Development Laboratory, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Proof and Experimental Establishment. Designed and developed. It has been contributed by Munitions India Limited and Economic Explosives Limited for ammunition and Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Larsen & Toubro for Pinaka Launcher and Battery Command Post.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has appreciated DRDO and the Indian Army for the successful PSQR validation trials of the system and said that the induction of this guided Pinaka weapon system will further enhance the artillery firepower of the armed forces.
What is Pinaka Rocket Launcher?
The Pinaka rocket is equipped with a state-of-the-art guidance system, due to which it identifies and hits the target with accuracy. It has been designed and developed by Pune-based DRDO laboratory, Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory. The initial range of Pinaka rocket was about 37 kilometers, which has been increased to more than 45 kilometers. Through the Pinaka weapon system, rockets can be fired at multiple places simultaneously. Pinaka identifies the exact target and fires the rocket there.
