The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on a petition seeking additional time in examinations for students suffering from type one diabetes.
SHRC Chairman Justice Alexander Thomas has sought a report within a month from the Principal Secretary of CBSE and General Education Department, a statement issued by the Commission on Saturday said.
The direction comes on a petition filed by a woman named Bushra Shihab, who has said that the Kerala government is giving 20 minutes extra time for every hour of examination for students suffering from type one diabetes in SSLC and Plus 2 examinations.
He has demanded that the same format be adopted in CBSE examinations also. He also said in his petition that there are more than 8,000 children suffering from type one diabetes in the state and there are more than eight lakh such children in the country.
