Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday alleged that LG Vinay Saxena is trying to manipulate the electoral process by removing AAP supporters from the voter list. He claimed that pressure was being put on election officials to remove around 20,000 voters from the voter list. He also said that BJP is afraid of defeat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. He said that the Central Government is trying to win Delhi elections through unfair means. They are planning to remove voters from the voter list, especially those associated with AAP.

However, there was no immediate reaction from the BJP. The senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader cited Delhi Lieutenant Governor’s October 28 order transferring 29 sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) as the first step in this alleged conspiracy. He appealed to booth level officials to oppose such actions and urged them to document any undue pressure or coercion.

In another political development, ruling AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday stepped up his attack on the BJP, alleging that despite “demolishing” several slums in the city in recent years, “ahead of the assembly elections in February” Taking recourse to “slum tourism”.

Addressing AAP’s foundation day function, he said that some BJP leaders were going to live with the people living in slums, but would come back after a year and demolish them with bulldozers. Delhi BJP is launching its “Slum Night Migration Campaign”, in which senior leaders including state president Virendra Sachdeva have been assigned the responsibility of visiting different slums and interacting with the people living there. The BJP, out of power in Delhi since 1998, has been targeting slum-dwelling voters, considered staunch supporters of AAP and Kejriwal, through sustained campaigns and outreach programmes. The party’s night march campaign will cover 250 slums in the city.
