A lot is happening in Test cricket these days. On one hand, Pakistan team managed to win the 3-match series 2-1 after losing the first test match, while on the other hand, Bangladesh had to face defeat against South Africa at home. South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the first test match played at Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. In this way, South Africa managed to take a 1-0 lead in the 2-match Test series. Now the second test match of the series will be played in Chattogram from 29th October. Big news has come before this match.

Actually, Bangladesh cricket team captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto has expressed his desire to leave the captaincy. Nazmul is the captain of Bangladesh in all three formats and has told the board that he wants to step down from the captaincy after the ongoing Test series against South Africa at home. ESPN Cricinfo gave this information in its report.

Information about the decision given to the board

According to the report, Shanto had sent a message to senior board officials after losing the first Test match in Dhaka that he wanted to step down from the captaincy. The BCB has not yet discussed the matter as board president Farooq Ahmed is not in the country. He is expected to reach Dhaka on Monday evening. If Shanto’s resignation is accepted then BCB will have to appoint a new captain soon considering the busy schedule of the team.

Team undergoing transformation tour

It is believed that Shanto is in a mood to leave the captaincy to focus on his batting. Since taking over the Test captaincy in November last year, he has scored runs at an average of 25.76. Till last year, he was one of the in-form batsmen of the team. After this, he was also given the captaincy of Bangladesh’s ODI and T20I team, after which there was a decline in his performance. Now the board will be looking for a captain who can better handle the command of the team which is going through a period of change as many senior cricketers of the team have either retired from some formats or are on the verge of doing so.
