Five more cases related to Diwali were reported. Of these, an 18-month-old child suffered 30 percent burns on his right side, while a 16-year-old girl suffered 50-55 percent burns on her upper body.

21 people who suffered burn injuries while bursting firecrackers on the occasion of Diwali, reached the ‘Advanced Eye Care Centre’ of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. These include mostly children.

A statement issued by PGIMER on Friday said that six of these people required surgery and all have been treated. The statement said that out of the 21 burn patients who came to PGIMER’s ‘Advanced Eye Centre’ in the last 48 hours, 12 were children.

Five more Diwali-related cases were reported at PGIMER’s Trauma Center on Thursday. Of these, an 18-month-old child suffered 30 percent burns on his right side, while a 16-year-old girl suffered 50-55 percent burns on her upper body. According to the release, among the patients undergoing treatment at the eye centre, eight were from Chandigarh and the others are residents of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
